Finding Feeds

As with most Web-searching exercises, my search for RSS feeds started out extremely broad, and, admittedly, rather poor. A general Technorati search for "library" was practically useless. So were searches for "library profession," information science," and "information literacy." But I tweaked a few things, and found the advanced search option to be really helpful. My recall declined, and my precision increased. I did a search for the exact phrase "information profession," and was immediately directed to ResourceShelf, "A daily newsletter with resources of interest to information professionals, educators and journalists."

And guess what I found there?! A link to an article entitled "How to Beat Information Overload." Pretty relevant, wouldn't ya say? It looks like a fascinating article, but sorry Nathan Zeldes, I've got too much email to read, too many Tweeters and Facebookers and RSS news feeds to follow...no time to read your article!

All jesting aside, I have to admit that I never would've found such an interesting article without consulting the very technology that Zeldes criticizes. Or perhpas he isn't criticizing the technology, just our use of it. I guess I'll find out if I ever get the time to read the article!
