Internet2

Looking around the Internet2 website can be a bit overwhelming. There is so much information, and most of it goes right over my head. "Advanced networking capabilities"? I'm not really sure what that means. It started to come together, though, when I found this article from 2004:
http://www.internetnews.com/infra/article.php/3403161
6.63 gigabits per second (!!!!)

After looking around the site a bit more, I began to understand the mission of the project and the immense opportunities it creates for innovation through collaboration. It's a matter of fact that universities and organization conducting valuable research require resources, especially network resources, that far exceed those delivered through commercial networks. Through collaboration, these organization began to rethink what the network could be, and explored options like linking up with private companies, and tapping into advanced network infrastructures that were already in place.

In doing so, they were able to greatly increase their productivity and networking (and here, I mean the old-fashioned sense of the term) capabilities, further their research, and develop an educational environment that can positively affect the entire country, if not the world.
